Richard on the Housing Crisis
Housing is the unseen crisis that is affecting more and more people throughout the area, after decades of Tory failure on affordable housing.
Issues such as the lack of affordable housing and the development of the Green Belt all lead back to one huge failure by Conservative Government, locally and nationally: to deliver a joined-up strategy to build the homes society needs.
Richard Streatfeild says: “The housing crisis is pulling the fabric of our communities apart. The local lack of affordable homes and “right-size” houses impacts thousands of people right across our communities.”
Younger generations have nearly abandoned hope of owning their own homes.
Essential ‘key’ workers realise they cannot afford a home in the very communities they are being asked to serve.
And our increasing number of older residents have got nowhere to go. So, falls at home in Sevenoaks, leading to hospitalisation, are way above the national average.
The brutal truth is that, for years, Conservatives failed to build affordable, social and right size housing and local people have paid the price. It’s time for change.
Liberal Democrats want to build better communities, giving powers to build more homes and to stop big developers land banking alongside meeting the need for affordable, social and right-size homes.
