Richard on the Environment
Protecting our environment – covering everything from local roads and rivers right up to the future condition of our planet – cannot be ignored or wished away.
For decades, Liberal Democrats have sought to highlight the vital need to safeguard the environment and were the first responders to the looming dangers of Climate Change.
Richard Streatfeild says: “Back then, Lib Dem concerns provoked little but derision from Tories and Labour.
“Now, the threat to the environment is recognised globally and the consequences are being felt with increasing droughts and floods, heatwaves and rising sea levels.
“So, is enough being done yet to safeguard the future of the land, sea and sky and their inhabitants?
Are we doing enough to reduce emissions, to stop sewage discharge in our rivers, or to recycle our waste? The answer is NO.
The Tory Government has approved new coal mines while permitting more oil and gas exploitation. Labour meanwhile has dumped its £28 Billion green investment pledge.
Liberal Democrats recognise Britain’s economy needs to change in ways which will protect the environment while creating tens of thousands of new jobs.
