Dear Sir,
I thank all those who voted Liberal Democrat in Sevenoaks and surrounding villages and towns last Thursday, in the process returning both new and experienced councillors to represent local people.
I would also congratulate Michael Fallon on his re-appointment to oversee our national defence.
However, I sincerely hope this won't take his eye off the ball regarding the severe lack of local school places, in what some parents have described as the 'educational valley of death', where more housing is built without the necessary schools, shops, GP surgeries, and bus services.
As Peter Read revealed in this week's Kent on Sunday, there are no vacancies at all in the seven town centre schools, with many parents now having to drive, bus or walk their children several miles away each day.
Fallon also should put more pressure onto his Conservative colleagues at County Hall in Maidstone to bring schools funding in Kent up to the national average and beyond.
Indeed, one of the highlights of the campaign was to visit Knole Academy and see their own Election Day in action. This was an excellent example of how to engage younger people in the political process, with help from KCC, and in particular i would like to congratulate the Lib Dem candidate Jack Smith for his sterling performance.
Yours,
Dr Alan Bullion
