Nate Silver, a highly respected predictor of US elections has offered a prediction for the UK election.

If it proves to be accurate then the Tories are likely to have the most MPs with Labour close behind. The difference is predicted to be 19 seats. The Tories would be 40 seats short of a majority and there would not be enough other parties to enable a Tory led coalition.

On the other hand, Labour (59 MPs short of a majority) would need the support of both the SNP and LibDems to form a government.

Once again LibDems would be in a position to support either the Tories or Labour. More votes for LibDems would give more legitimacy to a government backed by the LibDems.
