Chequers Plan gets thumbs down from Sevenoaks voters
Sevenoaks Liberal Democrats were on the streets on Saturday, with people of other parties and none, to find out what people think of the governments Brexit plans.
When we did this six months ago we found many people opposed to the Hard Brexit then on offer, but no clear majority on the way forward.
Things have changed. The 'Together in Europe' poll found a few weeks ago that there is strong support for the people to sort out what politicians can't. They want a Final Say on the future
We asked people to say how they would vote on real alternatives, rather than the abstract Leave or Remain vote of 2016
The votes were:
- Hard Brexit / No Deal 11
- Chequers plan 1
- Stay and reform Europe 82
- Don't know / No vote 2
This isn't a random sample - we know some people didn't want to take part. But the fact that only one person on Sevenoaks High Street was prepared to support Teresa Mays plan should ring alarm bells for MP Michael Fallon.
People in Sevenoaks want to fix the issues facing Britain and Europe, not accept a bureaucratic fudge.
