Sevenoaks Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Alan Bullion is very happy to support the 2017 CAMRA General Election 'Pledge for Pubs'.

Following a vigorous local campaign after the 2015 general election, JD Wetherspoon decided to keep its thriving Sevenoaks High Street pub - The Sennockian - open.

Wetherspoon's spokesman Eddie Gershon said there had been interest from prospective buyers but the company had taken into account the views of customers and the correspondence of Sevenoaks Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Alan Bullion.

Mr Gershon said: "They made it clear that they wanted The Sennockian to remain a Wetherspoon pub and we have responded to that.

"The Sennockian has been a Wetherspoon pub since 1999 and we look forward to welcoming customers through its doors for many years to come.

"We are certain that the pub's loyal customers as well as our staff will be delighted with the news."

Letter to the Sevenoaks Chronicle:

Dear Sir,

I am absolutely delighted that Wetherspoons have changed their mind and decided not to sell the Sennockian and so keep it as a pub.

I have been a regular at the Sennockian during two successive general election campaigns, and have always found it to be friendly and well-run, with a wide choice of local ales.

I am therefore pleased to be able to continue to enjoy its warm hospitality over the coming years.

Far too many pubs have sadly shut in Sevenoaks and surrounding villages over recent years, leaving large communities such as Bat and Ball only having one pub remaining open, with the Castle also being lost in recent months.

Lib Dems such as myself have long championed the right of local communities to campaign to save their pubs as Assets of Community Value, and will continue to fight their closure.

Yours,

Dr Alan Bullion

Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Sevenoaks and Swanley
