Where will all the new affordable houses in Sevenoaks be built?

Tony Clayton (Former vice chair of Housing, Sevenoaks District Council) says

"The idea of selling off housing association homes in the Conservative manifesto begs a number of interesting questions. The first and most obvious is that these homes belong to private organisations, not the government. So if a government can give away somebody else's property, how long will it be before (for example) buy to let tenants get the right to buy at a big discount?

"Second, if councils are required to sell off their most expensive properties to subsidise deals, what happens in places like Sevenoaks where there are no council houses? What would the council be required to sell instead? Our parks, playing fields or allotments?

"Third, and most serious, if only 20 per cent of today's Housing Association homes in Sevenoaks were sold, and had to be replaced by new affordable rented homes, where would the 1200 new houses be built? On the green belt? On our parks, playing field or allotments?

"Or would they be built somewhere north of Watford, so that affordable rented housing in Sevenoaks becomes a distant memory for the new families who need it?

"This policy has been designed on the back on Nigel Farage's fag packet. The only way it could help the housing crisis is if the supply of new homes to buy reduces house prices significantly. But Conservatives may be hoping that home owners in Sevenoaks won't realise that!"
