Southeastern have announced that offpeak fares will be increased by 3.4% (or 10p, whichever is the greater) from Sunday. An offpeak day return to London from Sevenoaks will now be £12.10.

This is significantly higher than the Consumer Prices Index which was 2.7% in April, and the Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) which was 2.6% in April.

Southeastern state: "We keep fare increases to a minimum and have frozen some fares for the past three years, including advanced (sic) fares which still remain at January 2016 prices".

So what does the Conservative MP have to say on this pre-election fare surge?
