New Faces, New Ideas for Sevenoaks Town Council as Conservatives lose political control

Five new Liberal Democrat councillors for Sevenoaks Town Council will bring new ideas to its work over the next four years. They are:

Eastern ward - Tom Morris, who joins Tony Clayton and Ed Waite
Northern ward - Claire Shea and Victoria Baxter, who join Merilyn Canet
Town ward - Lise Michaelides
St Johns ward - Sue Camp

Their arrival means the Council has 8 Liberal Democrat councillors, and 8 Conservatives - a 50 : 50 split. The Lib Dem group is determined that the change will ensure the Town Council works more cooperatively, and that it will better represent all the people of the town.

A large majority of residents in Sevenoaks now have at least one Lib Dem Town Councillor. The new council has many more women members, across all ages, who want to make it more collaborative. It has a wide range of professional skills and experience - project management, art and design, financial services, law, health, care services, the voluntary sector and economics.

Across Sevenoaks as a whole at least 3132 voters backed Lib Dem Town Council candidates, compared to 2207 who backed Conservatives. So the people of Sevenoaks have very definitely voted for change.

Liberal Democrat priorities of safer streets where people come before traffic, keeping Sevenoaks green, affordable family housing and the infrastructure to go with it, will move up the Town Council's agenda. Investment in community facilities will continue, as will the Council's support for Sevenoaks Town Partnership between residents, voluntary organisations, local businesses and councils to make the town a better place to live, work and do business.
