Letter to Sevenoaks Chronicle supporting Oyster card extension
Dear Sir,
I fully support Paul Malyon's campaign for the extension of the Oyster card, which should also include smart ticketing, and later stopping trains to Dunton Green, Kemsing, and other stations between Swanley and Sevenoaks.
Local commuters have had a very raw deal over recent years, with over-crowded services, and some of the steepest fare rises in the country, as revealed in surveys by Cllr Tony Clayton and the Sevenoaks Rail Travellers Association.
The wider availability of more flexible fares and smarter ticketing throughout the week would surely benefit many thousands of hard-pressed Sevenoaks commuters to London, stations in-between, and those travelling beyond the city centre, and better reflect changing work patterns.
Sadly little has changed over the past century for passengers, as in February 1915, the then South Eastern Railway company suspended all cheap tickets from Sevenoaks to London until further notice. Plus ca change!
Yours,
Dr Alan Bullion
