First steps in Sevenoaks Town
Our work has begun! Six-weeks on from the County Election on May 6th, I've been spending several days each week on KCC business; learning how KCC actually works, working with other members of the Liberal Democrat Group to divide up the tasks of opposition and - most importantly - helping residents with their issues with officers.
Whether you're a voter, resident, member, or supporter, I'd like to thank you for everything you've done especially in the last six months and over the last two years. Our win in Sevenoaks Town is a big stride, following the step that removed the Conservative majority on Sevenoaks Town Council in 2019. I'm really glad to be starting my term just as Merilyn Canet takes over as Mayor. We are heading in the right direction.
When we're allowed to, we will hold a proper celebration party - so expect an invitation. In the meantime I'm working with the Town and District councillors on the big issues which people raised with us over the campaign:
- making Sevenoaks a leader in cutting pollution and carbon emissions
- helping our businesses recover from a tough lockdown
- improving conditions for walking and cycling in our streets
- helping our schools recover
I have written to all the Councillors in town - of all parties - to say that I will represent everyone, and I'll report back regularly on what I do in Maidstone. I will report back to all voters too. As per my campaign pledge I am opening an office at Pavillion Gardens, just opposite the Vine Cafe, next week. Do come and say hello.
The next step involves building our local support through participation, campaigns and seeing real change. Your efforts have given that a huge boost.
