District Council Candidate for Christchurch and Swanley Village

Town Council Candidate for White Oak and County Council Candidate for Swanley Division (comprising White Oak, St. Mary's, Hextable)

Social Media Officer and Hextable Resident

Big decisions ahead for everyone in Swanley

Our town is facing changes. Over the next few months:

§ the District Council will launch a 'Masterplan' for Swanley to reshape the town and attract developers

§ a scheme for 13 storey premium price flats in Swanley Square is up for decision

§ the Town Council - and other landowners - will find out if bids to build 4,000 + homes, between Swanley Village, Swanley, Hextable and M25 are in the new local plan

§ Town and District Councils will try to make money by developing land they own or have bought

All these decisions need more input from local people. Here's why:

· The plans don't make clear how they will deliver more affordable homes. We think they should

· Many people have to work elsewhere to afford to live here; many more come into town to work here, bringing traffic jams and pollution. How do we build a more integrated community?

· The District Council's 'Masterplan' suggests building on most open land between Swanley Park and the M25, which developers and the Town Council support. Is this what you want?

· The 'Masterplan' to move Swanley Station nearer the town centre must ensure the new fast trains, from Maidstone to the City coming in 2018, don't miss Swanley!

What you can do…..

Ø Look at the Swanley Square plans on Sevenoaks planning portal, and make your comments before the deadline this month

Ø Fill in our Swanley Survey located above the candidate photos, and join the debate.

Ø Tell your Councillors what you think about the Masterplan - it's at:

www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/services/housing/planning/local-plan-and-planning-policy/swanley-and-hextable-masterplan

These decisions are more important than politics. Everyone in Swanley needs to come together - across party lines - and get the best for our town.

SWANLEY TOWN COUNCIL MELTDOWN

Swanley Town Council has cut most of its services:

v Woodlands boarded up and on the demolition list

v The Olympic run down, and put forward for housing

v Staff unfairly dismissed and payoffs kept secret

v £500,000 seems to have gone from cash balances

v Focus on property development, not services for you

v Talk of building a new swimming pool on the rec

v Councillors accused of harassing staff

This can't go on - councillors must serve Swanley
AFFORDABLE HOMES ?

The District Council's Housing Needs Assessment shows a crisis in affordable homes to rent to help key workers here.

Selling Housing Association homes won't help. Local Housing Associations can't build replacement affordable homes closer than Ashford.

We need positive support for affordable homes to rent. Without it Swanley cannot be a 'balanced, sustainable, community' with room for local workers
