A sell-out for the first ‘Sevenoaks Talks’
Sevenoaks Talks, our new Thought Leadershipkey speaker series, launched with a sell-out event at The Stag last week. Tim Gordon, founding partner of Best Practice AI, enlightened more thanover 50 guests on what AI might mean for us all.
Attendees were treated to a thought-provoking and engaging discussion as Tim delved into the intricacies of AI, unravelling its potential impact on various industries and our daily lives. The event aimed to foster a deeper understanding of AI and encourage dialogue and engagement on a subject that will affect us all.
Richard Streatfeild, our Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, who MC-ed the event, said: "Artificial Intelligence will be the biggest change society has seen since the invention of the automobile or the internet.
“We must be ready to embrace the opportunities and possibilities that change brings – to education, healthcare and defence – whilst also being mindful of the new challenges it will mean for society," said Richard Streatfeild, our parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
When asked about Elon Musk’s comments that ‘AI is one of the biggest threats to humanity’ and that ‘one day it will eradicate the need for jobs’, Tim Gordon had a different outlook:
“AI is like the car, we don’t need to understand how it works to drive one.
“However, at this stage we haven’t given thought to what the speed limits might be, or what seat belts or safety features are necessary. This is where the UK and indeed all of us need to be participating and leading in the conversation.”
The event underscored the local Liberal Democrat’s commitment to providing a platform for thought leadership and fostering a community that comes together to discuss the issues of the day.
Plans are already in motion for future events that will continue to explore emerging trends at a global, national and local level.
Sevenoaks Talks will return on Wednesday 31st January with a conversation led by public affairs consultant, Will Brett, on how we can shape High Streets that are tailored to 21st Century lifestyles. You can book your tickets here now.
