Government is destroying UK reputation on the world stage.

Government should make laws, not break laws.

In Parliament Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis admitted that planned Northern Ireland customs legislation "does break international law". A Conservative Government ready to break international law shows how its moral standards, and common sense, have vanished under Boris Johnson. Tearing up the UK's proud history of promoting the rule of law is destroying our reputation on the world stage. It shreds our ability to promote British values of rule of law and justice in the world.

Johnson wants to change parts of the Withdrawal Agreement, which he negotiated himself with the EU and voted through Parliament in January. Theresa May and Sir John Major have warned of the erosion of trust on future agreements with other nations. Sir Jonathan Jones, the UK's chief legal officer, resigned after the Government rejected his advice that legislation to undermine the Withdrawal Agreement is dangerous and damaging.

The idea that we will get a good agreement with our biggest trade partner by ripping holes in the deal just signed is a recipe for failure. Who will trust a business partner deliberately refusing to deliver on the last contract? Johnson and company fail the Which? test.

Liberal Democrats unequivocally condemn this reckless approach.
