Fixing the Housing Crisis in Sevenoaks
Housing is the unseen crisis that is affecting more and more people throughout the area.
Issues such as the lack of affordable housing and the development of the Green Belt all lead back to one huge failure by Conservative Government, locally and nationally: no joined-up strategy to build the homes society needs.
The housing crisis is pulling the essential fabric of our communities apart. The local lack of affordable homes and ‘right-size’ houses impacts thousands of people right across our communities.
Richard Streatfield, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Sevenoaks
Younger generations are abandoning hope of owning their own homes.
Key workers realise they cannot afford a home in the very communities they are being asked to serve.
Couples are delaying starting their families because they can't get the security of ‘a real home.’
Our increasing number of older residents have nowhere to go and therefore stay in their family homes. This means that falls at home - leading to hospitalisation - are far higher in the Sevenoaks constituency than the national average.
Liberal Democrats want to build better communities, with powers to build more homes and to stop big developers land-banking, alongside meeting the need for affordable, social and right-size homes in every community.
The brutal truth is that, for years, Conservatives failed to build affordable, social and right-size housing and local people have paid the price. It’s time for change.
