HGVs should be banned from the Upper High Street
It's over ten years since Kent County Council turned down a petition from hundreds of Sevenoaks people ban Heavy Goods Vehicles from Sevenoaks High Street. No action was taken to cut pollution and since then the problem of congestion, fumes causing ill health and damage to Sevenoaks historic centre have worsened.
Now many of the businesses in Sevenoaks High Street and London Road are saying that HGVs make Sevenoaks a much less attractive place to visit and to shop. They want change and so do we. It is time to challenge the 'do-nothing' attitude at Kent County Council.
So we are relaunching the petition, and we're asking for a broader solution to HGV congestion in our town. Please join us to protect Sevenoaks town centre from death by juggernaut.
Our petition:
"We ask Kent County Council to listen to the voices of residents, shoppers, and local businesses to reduce the impact of heavy goods vehicles on Sevenoaks Town Centre. We ask KCC to work with the District and Town Councils to remove unnecessary HGV access from the High Street and from London Road north of M&S, and to ban vehicles over 7.5 mts from the Upper High Street"
